RoHS Directive (The Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment) came into force on July 1, 2006. This Directive bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDEs) flame retardants. The manufacturers need to understand the updated requirements of the RoHS Directive to ensure that their products, and their components are comply to the allowable concentration.
